DESCRIPTION
In a beautiful historical quarter and entirely renovated, this apartment is part of a narrow and discrete alley where cars are not allowed. Its interiors are stylish and comprise wooden floors and original wooden shutters combined with low-key colors, cozy rooms, excellent beds and a nice, spacious common area. The general feel is that the interiors have been very tastefully decorated, always with the guests’ comfort in mind.
The apartment’s blessed tranquility will feel like heaven at the end of a day walking round the streets of Lisbon.
NEIGHBORHOOD
Historical Alfama dates back to the time of Arab occupation (ca. 8th, 9th century AD), which is probably why it is packed with so many Fado venues, as the traditional Portuguese song is supposed to have been influenced by the Arab culture. Quite typical and not at all uncommon is to listen to Fado amateurs singing their hearts out from the inside of their own homes! This charming quarter is also jammed with centuries old monuments, quaint grocery stores, charming shops, a flea market and labyrinthine alleys. On foot, you can reach most of old, historical Lisbon. . On your way, you will also come across grocers, shoemakers and other artisans who have been selling their products for over 40 years! This is real, genuine Lisbon, with which most visitors fall in love at first glance.
You can also marvel, day in day out, at the glistening Tagus river from Alfama’s highest spots. The Fado Museum is another of Alfama’s highlights.
The apartment’s quiet alley is walking distance from some of Lisbon’s “relics”: 5 min to the Fado Museum, Panteão Nacional (where the Portuguese royal family and prestigious Portuguese are buried) and São Vicente de Fora convent; 10 min to São Jorge Castle or the Se Cathedral;15 min from one of the world’s most beautiful square, Praça do Comércio, and the elegant downtown buildings; a little further away, are the aristocratic Chiado and the alternative Bairro Alto with a trendy nightlife. Of course, you will also have to explore Belém – the Museum quarter. So please take a bus or a tram and spend some time there. Loads to see in Belém!
Nearby, less than a 5 minutes walk, runs the ultra-famous 28 tram line which crosses some of the best historical quarters, as well as Santa Apolónia metro and train station which links Lisbon to the whole country. The metro network reaches a good part of Lisbon. Metro and buses can also take you to Cais do Sodré train station which serves the beautiful Cascais and Estoril summer resorts, or to Rossio train station from where you can reach Lord Byron’s beloved village of Sintra.

COVID-19 SPECIAL: As long as there are international travel restrictions in Portugal for booked dates, guests that now make their reservation, are allowed to change their booking dates without any penalty. Good INTERNET CONNECTION If you’re coming to Lisbon, you couldn’t possibly choose a better apartment. Located on a hill in the heart of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest and most fascinating quarter, this bright apartment is ideal for families or groups. Sunny and spacious, it affords glorious views over the beautiful Tagus estuary. If you’re a romantic or tend towards contemplation, this is the best place to enjoy a view that will remain with you for the rest of your life. Lovely interiors, a sun-drenched living room, scenic views and beautiful surroundings are this apartment’s main features. It’s also right next door to some national “jewels”, such as the convent of São Vicente de Fora, Sé Cathedral and São Jorge Castle. There are plenty of restaurants and Fado venues in the neighborhood, as well as the lively, picturesque flea market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Our guests love this apartment because of its river views and “authentic” Lisbon location. DESCRIPTION Once you open the door to the apartment you’ll be struck by the scenic, incredibly blue water of the river Tagus. Trust us, it’s a view that will remain with you for the rest of your life! So, to make the most of this scenery, take a seat, pick up a glass of wine in one hand, maybe a book in the other, and just dream away! This homely apartment offers 3 bedrooms (1 with a double bed, the other 2 can have a double bed or 2 singles) and 3 bathrooms (with showers, one is en suite). The 2 bedrooms with river view include traditional balconies, with decorated iron railings, tall windows and unusually high ceilings, as does the spacious and comfortable living-room. Enjoying a traditional dinner to the sound of Portuguese guitars and the dramatic voices of Fado singers, will make you enter a state of inexplicable melancholy which the Portuguese call “saudade”. This apartment is exceptionally well situated to explore the maze of winding alleyways, cobbled stone streets, old fountains and beautiful aristocratic façades. On foot, obviously. On your way, you’ll also come across grocers, shoemakers and other artisans who have been selling their products for over 40 years! COVID-19 SPECIAL: As long as there are international travel restrictions in Portugal for booked dates, guests that now make their reservation, are allowed to change their booking dates without any penalty. With direct views over the Tagus and a fabulous terrace where you can wind down at the end of the day, this apartment is close to one of Alfama’s main streets. Yet it is quiet as it is located between a street with no traffic and pedestrian alleys leading down to the riverfront. With colorful interiors and close to all that matters in this fascinating quarter, you could not pick a better apartment for your short (or long) break in Lisbon. DESCRIPTION The apartment’s main feature is its privileged terrace overlooking the never-ending changes in the colors of the Tagus – from dawn to sunset -, and the misty, thin line of houses, backed by the Serra da Arrábida mountains, far across the river, on the south bank. The terrace is equipped with chairs and a table for meals and a patio umbrella to protect guests from what can sometimes be a blazing sun. All around the terrace are lovely rooftops and colorful façades. The apartment has 3 bedrooms (one of them windowless) and multicolored, modern interiors with lovely lace curtains in the bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped and the sun-drenched living room is connected to the terrace. The perfect accommodation for those who enjoy tradition, scenic views and proximity to cultural attractions. NEIGHBORHOOD The apartment’s location is perfect, not only as it is next to some national “jewels”, but also because it’s close to streets where the locals greet each other from balcony to balcony and buy food from nearby shops, many of which haven’t changed for decades! This is the true soul of Lisbon, a lively, fascinating quarter with layer upon layer of history. This fascinating quarter is a unique combination of centuries-old monuments, craft workshops, hidden palaces, lovely corners, old-time cafés and hanging bougainvillea that bring color to white-washed walls and lively squares where you can have a lovely meal for a very reasonable price - sardines are typical, so don’t forget to eat some with the usual baked potatoes, grilled peppers, maybe a crème brûlée for dessert, accompanied by plenty of sangria (or wine). Fado restaurants and taverns are also numerous here, because Alfama is the true heart of Lisbon’s Fado, a song whose influences go back to the time of Arab occupation (8th – 12th century AD). Yet, it only became Portugal’s national song in the early 19th century, when the Portuguese royalty fell in love with it (as did everybody else). Since 2011, Fado has been considered part of UNESCO’s intangible heritage. This is a neighborhood of people who chat from balcony to balcony, where they sometimes hang out their clothes to dry. Typical and traditional, Alfama is a soulful quarter where locals are intense, monuments are beautiful and the many streets and corners wonderful to photograph. This is probably Lisbon’s most romantic quarter. From here you can reach most of old, historic Lisbon on foot. On your way, you’ll also come across grocers, shoemakers and other artisans who have been selling their products for over 40 years! This is real, genuine Lisbon, the one most visitors fall in love with at first sight. There is also a delay fee of 20€ should you arrive more than 2 hours after the scheduled arrival time. In this case, you might have to wait as it will be necessary to reschedule the day’s check-ins.
